Education 4 Independence courses

Education 4 Independence is a provision for adults with learning difficulties which helps to develop skills for life, work and towards independence.

Education 4 Independence deliver a range of learning opportunities for people with learning difficulties and disabilities based within Havering Adult Colleges site within the Bower Park Centre.

We demostrate all learners' achievement by producing workbooks which include photographic evidence.

All educational provision is nationally recognised and all learners receive accredited qualifications to evidence achievement.  All the learners will also receive their workbooks to enable learner recall out of the classroom environment.

 

Courses include:

Course change each year but we are currently offering:


Monday

 


Cooking for Health

These are classroom based sessions where the learners will be looking at health alternatives for meals.

 

Transportation and Getting About
Within the course learners will be visiting museums and using transport to get around. Trips will include the British Transport Museum and the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.

Tuesday


Communicate Through Art

Within these sessions learners will be learning to use a variety of mediums to improve their communication skills.

 

Looking Back
This course focuses on the family unit and how it changes over time. It allows the learners to talk, show and share information about those who are important to them.


Wednesday

Photography -The World Around Me
Within these sessions learners will be going out to research the local area and will be preparing an electronic album of photos.


Out and About

These sessions allow learners to travel around the borough and be more familiar with local landmarks,whilst developing choice and independence skills.



Thursday

 


Craft and Card Skills

These sessions allow learners to express themselves through art and design. Learners will develop new techniques, and produce items for family and friends.


Home Grown Cookery

This is both a practical and a research based cookery course. Learners will be preparing and cooking foods and investigating the foods they eat and where they originate from.

 

Friday

 

ICT for Socialising
On this course learners will discover ways to keep in touch with friends online, including Skype and social media.


Wellbeing and Health

In this course learners look at all things they enjoy and identify what makes them happy. The course looks at setting goals and how to achieve their dreams.
