The Havering Adult College Employability Training (ACET) department offers high quality FREE employability courses that help you to get ready for work. Our partnership with Jobcentre Plus and strong links with local employers put us in a very good position to offer you the training and up-skilling opportunities you need to enter the job market.
We have dedicated Employability Trainers who will guide you on the courses and give you the skills and confidence you need to obtain and maximise interview opportunities to help you successfully secure employment.
Our Employability and Partnerships Officer can help you by assessing your existing skills, goals and needs and by creating an individualised action plan for you. This will be reviewed regularly to ensure you are steadily progressing on your job-seeking journey. We are JCP’s preferred provider for employability training.

The courses on offer include:
|Course name||Course description|
|GTJ (Get That Job)||This is a two or three day course focusing on interview skills. There will be mock interviewswith developmental feedback, team building activities, job search and other tasks related to job search.|
|AES (Advanced Employability Skills)||This is a three day course and will involve leadership, group and presentation tasks as well as mock interviews, which are competency-based. The interview will require statistical analysis, which is then presented as part of the interview assessment.|
|IT Entry level||This is a three day course on ICT for beginners covering IT fundamentals, Word and using the Internet and Email. This will also have elements of Universal Jobmatch i.e. setting up an account and uploading/ attaching documents.|
|IT Level 1||The Level 1 Award ICT course is a full qualification that covers Word (creating, editing and formatting documents), Excel (creating and formatting worksheets, creating graphs and charts and using simple formulas and functions) and PowerPoint (creating, editing and formatting slides) in 3 full days.|
|Customer Service Level 1||This one day course will cover understating different organisations, customer expectations, looking at customer complaints and how to communicate successfully within a customer service role.|
|Self-Enterprise||This is a one day course, which will include an introduction to the main principles of enterprise and starting your own business. Tasks will include identifying and exploring enterprise, image, business plan, location, target market, finance, laws/legislations, seasons, accounting/tax. There will also be a task based on constructing and pitching a business plan.|
|Social Media for Job Searching||This short, non-accredited course will show how to effectively use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to search for employment. Internet safety and profiles will also be covered.|
|Money Management Level 1||This course develops awareness of financial products and services and skills to manage money appropriately, will also cover Universal Credit implications for those affected.|
|1-2-1 Employability support||Graded 'outstanding' by Ofsted, these tailored courses cover CV writing, cover letters, basic IT support and help learners with applying for current relevant jobs.|
